Appleseed
Rescued September 12, 2025
Appleseed’s rescue story is one of both heartbreak and survival. She was the last surviving member of her flock after predators took the lives of all the others, leaving her completely alone. When her family realized she was the only one left, they made the difficult choice to step away from keeping animals. During her rescue, we spoke with them about proper housing and predator protection and shared that hens can live up to 15 years in the right environment. They were surprised and relieved to know that Appleseed still has many years ahead of her and grateful that she would now have the safety and care she deserves.
It is difficult to imagine the fear she must have felt as one by one her companions were lost. Yet through it all she endured, and today she thrives as part of the Wild Pines family. Appleseed is a bold and independent hen who prefers the freedom of the aviary, often roaming near the roosters while still keeping her own space. She is a survivor, a free spirit, and a reminder that every life has value and deserves protection.
