Athena

Rescued September 20, 2025

Athena’s story began in tragedy. She was one of nearly 200 birds discovered in a cockfighting bust where roosters and hens endured neglect and violence. Many suffered injuries, and all were kept in unsafe, inhumane conditions. Thanks to the tireless work of Good Sprout Rescue, who provided care and quarantine, Athena was given the chance at a safe future. When the time came, she was welcomed into the Wild Pines family.

Athena carries herself with a bold and commanding presence. Within the flock she makes sure the other chickens know their place, showing a strong and confident spirit. Around people, however, she remains extremely flighty and keeps her distance, which is understandable given what she has endured. At Wild Pines, Athena is free to express her strong personality while also being given the space she needs to feel safe.

Every resident here eats, sees a vet, and has somewhere warm to sleep because someone chose to pay for it. Monthly sponsorship is the steadiest way to keep that true.
