Rescued May 28, 2026

Moss was one of more than 160 pigs removed from a heartbreaking neglect and hoarding situation in North Carolina through the Blue Ridge Liberation rescue effort. Sanctuaries across multiple states came together to give the pigs somewhere safe to go, and after months of medical care, planning, and coordination, Moss finally made his way to Wild Pines. He also has mulefoot, a condition in which the hoof is fused rather than naturally split. It requires some additional monitoring and hoof care, but it certainly doesn't keep Moss from enjoying his life.

It took Moss almost no time at all to decide that his new people were worth getting to know. Within a day of arriving, he was approaching us for snacks and taking treats right from our hands. He's gentle, trusting, and wonderfully easygoing, with the kind of sweet personality that makes it difficult to believe how much uncertainty existed in his life before sanctuary. These days, Moss enjoys wallowing, plenty of room to explore, and all the attention and snacks he's willing to accept.
